How do Healthcare Administration Bachelor’s Degree Programs Work?

A bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration typically requires 120-126 credits, some of which cover general education coursework. Depending on full-time or part-time enrollment and the number of prior credits transferred, enrollees complete the degree in 2-4 years.

The major covers business concepts such as managerial accounting, healthcare economics, and computer applications in health sciences. Specialized healthcare training includes epidemiology, healthcare policy, healthcare operations management, and managed care and health insurance.

The degree may also offer a concentration such as health information management. If required, a capstone project allows students to apply lessons learned to a real scenario or case study. An internship opportunity can also give enrollees real experience in a healthcare setting.

Some schools offer online or hybrid healthcare administration programs, prioritizing flexibility and convenience. Accelerated programs and part-time enrollment options also accommodate the needs of working students.

Applying to a Bachelor’s in Healthcare Administration Program

Prospective students will need a high school diploma or GED certificate to apply. Some programs require SAT or ACT scores, but many no longer require test scores. Degree completion programs require prior college credits. Applicants should expect to pay a $30-$50 application fee.

  • Admission Materials: High school or GED certificate transcripts, prerequisite coursework (some programs), essay or personal statement, letters of recommendation, and application.
  • GPA Requirement: 2.0-2.8

Why is Program Accreditation Important?

All programs on this ranking are accredited, ensuring each degree meets stringent standards established by a reputable accrediting body. The U.S. Department of Education recognizes institutional and programmatic accrediting bodies.

Schools offering healthcare administration degrees may be accredited by an institutional accrediting body such as the Higher Learning Commission or the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Some bachelor’s degrees in healthcare administration hold programmatic accreditation from the Association of University Programs in Health Administration.
