Flagstaff’s only public community college, Coconino Community College (CCC) is a two-year institution offering certificate and associate degree programs in 60 study areas. The Arts and Sciences division offers majors such as creative arts, English, math and foreign languages, while the Career and Technical Education division has programs that require more hands-on training, such as medical careers, nursing and construction. CCC’s programs also lead to professional certificates or pre-certification preparation for technical and medical occupations, including medical assistant, computer technician, network engineer and emergency paramedic.
Northern Arizona University (NAU) is a public four-year university that serves approximately 19,300 students on the Flagstaff campus. Students at Northern Arizona University (NAU) have access to a vast array of online degree and certificate programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Some programs rely on fully online instruction, and others use a blended format, allowing students to complete in-person requirements at numerous Arizona campuses. Certain programs may provide a choice of either the online or blended mode of delivery.
While NAU’s online degrees encompass bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral options, there are only two doctorates. The Doctor of Education is a blended program, while the Doctor of Nursing Practice is a fully online offering. Students seeking online master’s degrees have many choices, including applied communication, geospatial sciences, educational technology and methods for math instruction.
Selections for bachelor’s degrees cover more than 40 accredited programs in the fully online format and 18 blended options. Some undergrad programs, such as comparative cultural studies, recommend that students take on internships or field work to complement online learning. Online majors at NAU range from sociology to education to nursing. The RN-to-BSN program reaches a broad student population by including registered nurses without an associate degree, allowing RNs to earn an associate degree concurrently with the bachelor’s degree.

CCC offers online and interactive TV courses, as well as hybrid programs that combine on-campus and online learning. CCC’s online courses are delivered through the Canvas learning management system, a virtual classroom that features discussion groups, assignments and presentations. Most online courses are intended for CCC students who are looking for flexibility in their degree programs, although several degree programs are offered fully online.
A more comprehensive list of online programs is offered at NAU’s Extended Campus. More than 80 online bachelor’s and master’s degrees are available, including programs in health administration, justice studies, construction management, applied science and professional writing. NAU’s online programs may be completed fully online or through a hybrid format, allowing students to complete part of the curriculum on an NAU campus. Through an online program called Personalized Learning, students complete a bachelor’s degree program with no set course requirements. The self-paced program is designed for students with proven competency or previous education in their academic subject.
